The C-12 Huron is the military version of the Beechcraft Super King Air. It is a twin-engined turboprop passenger and cargo aircraft. The C-12 Huron aircrafts were used by the United States Air Force, United States Army and the United States Navy. Its function includes medical evacuation and light and passenger cargo. The aircraft provides support for military bases and shore units. Up to the year 2010, the C-12 Huron will stay on the Operation Support Airlift.
The C-12 Huron was produced by the Raytheon Aircraft Company formerly the Beech Aircraft Corporation. The C-12 is a monoplane T-tail pressurized aircraft that provides room for the pilot, the co-pilot and the passengers. It is powered by two typical Pratt and Whitney Canada turbo prop engines. The governments C-12 aircraft forces were similar to the Beech Super King Air 200 & 1900C, which was controlled internationally by private and commercial users.
Beech started the design of the aircraft in October 1970. In October 27, 1972, it made its first flight and in December 1973 it received its certification. The King Air was the most successful plane in its group. It exceeded the performance of its competitors such as the Piper Cheyenne and the Cessna Conquest aircrafts.
In 1973, the United States Army asked for 60 King Air A200s which they designated as the C-12As. In July 1975, its worldwide distribution started with a sum of 380 aircrafts requested by the United States Armed Forces in the late 1990s. It was used as a general personnel transport when it entered service with the United States in 1974. The United States Navy ordered 64 C-12 Huron aircrafts in 1982.
