    Aeroflot YAK-40 CCCP-87490 (1:200) by Herpa Models Item Number: 557290The Soviet-Era Aeroflot was by far the largest operator of this small trijet, having had more than 500 Yak-40s in its fleet. Today, CCCP-87490 is preserved in the Central Air Force Museumin Monino, near Moscow.

      Estonian Air YAK-40 ES-AAR (1:200) by Herpa Models Item Number: HE557153 Nobody realized at the time of its first flight back in 1966, that the small trijet would be the first in a new class of aircraft: the regional jet. The usual 25 to 32 passengers entered the aircraft through stairs underneath the tail - a feature that will be added on this model. More than 1,000 Yak-40s were produced in total.

            A curiosity during the Cold War: between 1970 and 1972, the USSR delivered three Yak-40s to Italy as payment for textile machinery. These were put into service with the regional carrier Aertirrena. Two of the tri-jets were leased to Olympic Airways and operated on routes between the Greek Isles.�
